01.06.2010. alure3 wins "Good Design" Award

alure3 — a new approach to worksurface task and interior accent lighting for library, office, home office and other commercial and institutional interiors, has just won its second recognition in a year from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in its annual “Good Design” international products awards competition.
The Good Design Award was created in 1950 by leading 20th Century architects and bestows recognition on some of the world’s most outstanding business and consumer product designs, and to the manufacturers and designers who brought them to functional reality.  It is a worldwide product design competition. Last year, a•light won for its accolade5 flush-mounted combination ceiling/wall energy-saving luminaire.

alure3 delivers comfortable, non-glare, highly energy-saving task/accent illumination, for a broad range of library, office, home office, other commercial and institutional environments.
Typical installations include multi-person library reading and worktables, and study carrels; laboratory tables used for experiments, examinations, electronic or paper note-taking; conference room/meeting room/training-room tables; image-conscious corporate office work areas, including lobby and reception desks, office workstations and credenzas; multi-person office “benching” applications, single- or multi-person private office, including home offices; hospitality-industry applications, such as resort/hotel lobby, reception and private-room installations. Wherever the need may occur for high-performance, no-glare, direct downward linear lighting coincides with statement-making luminaire design, integral with interior architecture and providing proper task/accent illumination with exceptional energy conservation.

alure3 is immediately notable for its lower-scale, crisp unadorned architectural design that integrates with building and interior architecture in a post-and-beam configuration.  Conceived as a series of simple rectangles and squares, smaller than most table or task lights, the luminaire mounts directly to tabletops, desk units or other work surfaces to provide unobtrusive illumination along an entire horizontal plane.  A single-sided fixture housing is less than 2” high, 2.75” across, and attached to a 1.5” support channel that conceals wiring and ballast. Available in six standard lengths, lamp housings range from three to twelve feet in a single extrusion, and can be combined into linkable hairline-seam rows of any length.

alure3 has a recessed lamp position and a 30° cut-off blade baffle, united to achieve focused light distribution with comfort and no eye-strain.  Baffle is powdercoated in a glare-reducing satin black or other color choices.  Optional Lex-Efx™ acrylic interior lens-control film, with a specular screen print, provides a second light-distribution alternative to cut-off blades. Lamping is a choice of linear T5 or T5H.O. single-lamp fluorescent units with high lumens per watt, excellent maintained lumens over its long lifespan, and instant-on flicker-free starts.   Occupancy sensors and daylight harvesting provide further energy-saving options.

The luminaire mounts directly to any tabletop, desk or credenza via a ballast and wiring support channel.  The channel can be powdercoated to match the luminaire, or finished to compliment its surroundings.  Variable post heights and cantilever housing lengths allow customization to specific table sizes.  A single cantilevered housing with one luminaire is available for applications near or against a wall or partition.  Dual cantilevers with two luminaires are applied to open table, desk or credenza areas.  Convenient, integrated power and data ports on each side of the ballast channel operate laptops, phones, other electrical devices and can be custom for each application.

alure3 fixture housings are constructed from high quality, 60% recycled aluminum extrusions, with precision-milled billet aluminum ends.  An alightanium™ low environmental impact powder-coated finish is standard; other standard or custom powdercoat colors may also be specified.  alure3 is UL, cUL listed, made in America.
